The Truckster has got some new wheels.
Got in a set of Rocket Racing Wheels in a classic Torque Thrust style that Rocket calls “Fuel.” The wagon’s still a long way from a nitro burner, but they’re great! Lighter and cheaper than the “real” torque thrusts by a wide margin. Rocket also makes more modern styles and sizes for those who prefer the 17″ and larger look. They make cool truck wheels as well.
I’ve been interested in trying a set of these ever since seeing them advertised in the pages of Ol’ Skool Rods Magazine. They do not disappoint!
Before:
After (now with Rocket Power!):
In addition to looking super-slick, the new wheel and tire combo makes it very obvious that the Scram Wagon needs to be lowered, and soon.
The Rocket center caps are cast aluminum, embossed with the very cool Rocket logo (above). Even better-they’re held in with an O-ring seal. High-end features in an affordable wheel!
I chose 15*7 for the front. They also sell a 15*4″ in this style, for the “front-skinnies” drag car look. That might come in handy later….
For the rear, I agonized over size for a couple of days before selecting 15*8 wheel with a 3.75 backspace. I really wanted a 15*10, but wasn’t absolutely sure it would fit inside the wheel well, so I chickened out.
Fortunately, the 15*8 looks fantastic wearing a 275/60/15 BFG Radial T/A. Deep dish look adds character in spades, lots of room to spare.
BFG ships their white letter tires with a protective blue coating, seen here. This must be water soluble as it washes off very easily.
Special thanks to Worden-Martin/Ford City, and the infamous Fournier brothers for helping the Truckster get its new set of shoes!
